Better than a brought Big Mac

Hi guys,

So I recently watched a video on YouTube to make a home-made big mac and decided to give it a go at home, it tasted so good that I had to share it!!

The actual recipe was for a vegan Big Mac, personally I opted for vegetarian but you could easily make this with meat by simply switching out the patties.

Big Mac Ingredients:

2 buns (you will need the second to make the middle bun)

2 patties of your choosing (I opted for the Peri Peri Linda McCartney Vegetarian patties – ps these are awesome!!)

Big Mac Sauce (Recipe below)

Finely diced onion (the finer the better!)


Lettuce diced (McDonalds use iceberg)



Cook your patties according the manufacturer’s instructions

Finely dice your onion

Dice your lettuce and set aside

Make your Big Mac Sauce (recipe below)

Slice one bun in half and slice the top and bottom off of the second bun, you should end up with a piece of bun about the same thickness as your other two buns but with an open top and bottom.

Toast your buns lightly, don’t forget to toast both sides of your middle bun

BIG MAC SAUCE – Ingredients:

½ cup mayo

2 tablespoons French dressing (in NZ our French dressing is much different to that used in this recipe so I used the ETA dressing and added 1.5 teaspoons of bbq sauce and opted to not add the vinegar as the nz French dressing was already acidic)

4 teaspoons sweet pickle relish

1 tablespoon finely chopped onion

1 teaspoon sugar

Tiny pinch salt to taste


Mix all ingredients together in a small bowl

Assembly order.

  1. Bottom bun
  2. ½ tbsp big mac sauce
  3. ½ tsp onion
  4. ¼ cup lettuce
  5. Vegan cheese
  6. Veggie burger
  7. Middle bun
  8. ½ tbsp big mac sauce
  9. ½ tsp onion
  10. ¼ cup lettuce
  11. pickles
  12. Veggie burger
  13. Top bun
